I know I’m a bit late on finding out about this, but I thought I’d post about it anyway since not everyone may be aware.
The good news: Power View now can now connect to Multidimensional data models (aka Cubes)
The bad news: The functionality is only available on stand alone SharePoint (2010 or 2013), and now new additonal updates have been released since (a little over a year has passed).
Does this mean that connecting to multidimensional cubes directly from Excel (on-prem or in the cloud) is not going to be available? I hope that’s not the case as I see a lot of value in being able to do so. With Microsoft’s model of releasing/adding functionality to the cloud first, it will be interesting to see if anything is released by the end of the year. Until then I will have to continue loading cube data into PowerPivot as a workaround.
